The Shelby County School Board approved a new annual job evaluation for Superintendent Dorsey Hopson II during its business meeting Tuesday night.
The new evaluation will measure Hopson’s job performance in several areas including board, community and staff relationships as well as facilities, finance, student achievement and management of the merger of Memphis City and Shelby County Schools.
Hopson will be evaluated on a 1 to 5 scale.
A 5 ranking means significantly above expectations while a 1 is significantly below expectations.
His evaluation will also include six performance objectives covering student achievement, technology needs, staff training and development, ensure the efficiency of the central office and review and improve the district’s measurement against the state’s annual goals.
Hopson has participated in the committee meetings and has provided his input including a request that his performance review extend from last March.
His evaluation includes a review of how he handled his workload prior to the Memphis City and Shelby County School merger and after the merger. Hopson will be evaluated on his management and response to unexpected challenges.
Academically, Hopson will be evaluated on student achievement for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic year. The current year’s scores will be released this summer.
Board member Chris Caldwell added during Tuesday night’s meeting that the evaluation should also cover Hopson’s implementation of the 80/90/100% goal for college and career readiness.
